Praising God from A To Z Series Introduction

Updated: Feb 15, 2022

To understand a fraction of Christ, one must grasp three concepts: who He is, what He is like, and what His foundations are. This post will mark the beginning of the Praising God from A To Z series (also referenced as the Alphabetical Attributes of God series). Over the next few weeks, the attributes will be broken down into every letter of the English alphabet. Be sure to follow to get regular updates!

Who is God?

God is the creator of all of creation, eternally existent in three persons (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) in one deity. God is the trinity: one God, three persons: Father, Son, Holy Spirit. God is El Shaddai, Eloheim, Adonai, Prince of Peace, Emmanual. He is the giver and taker of life. He is sovereign, another one of his attributes. To fully understand God is beyond our own limitless and to fully describe God is unintelligible. Who can search the mind of God? Charles Spurgeon stated, "nothing teaches us about the preciousness of the Creator as much as when we learn the emptiness of everything else."

Our human minds are barred into the concept of an eternal, completely holy, undefiled being who is outside of time.

"But you, oh LORD, are enthroned forever; you are remembered throughout all generations." Psalm 102:12, ESV.

"Can you discover the depths of God? Can you discover the limits of the Almighty? They are high as the heavens, what can you do? Deeper than Sheol, what can you know? Its measure is longer than the earth and broader than the sea." Job 11:7, ESV.

What is Christ like?

For God to be love He has to hate what is against perfect love.

Sodom and Gomorrah are historical references to this wrath. Please see https://answersingenesis.org/archaeology/have-we-found-sodom/ for the archaeological account of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Another historical account (and one we are still dealing with today) is the curse that was bestowed upon Ishmael. Ishmael was the firstborn son of Abraham who was brought forth out of Abraham's servant Hagar after he had relations with her. Ishmael came to be the patriarch of Islam due to Abraham disobeying God--with due mention to his wife Sarah--and not waiting for God to give them a son. Egypt was brought low with plagues that served as punishment for all of their gods (see here, https://creation.com/the-ten-plagues-of-egypt). To exemplify the above statement, let's not leave out the Flood. The greatest judgment of our time: the rise of false teachers in great multitudes.

False Theologians and Their Message

A tweet from Beth Moore: "I imagine it a little like this. I’m in a tailspin, stressed, trying to get everything done. Getting more anxious by the minute, mood worsening, & Jesus is like, “How ya doing this morning, Beth?” Me:”I’ll get to ya in a sec!” Him: “Oh don’t mind me. I’m doing fine. How are YOU?”

Jesus has become the new boyfriend of the 21st Century. An eternal king mentioned merely as someone who is only existent to make us happy. Stress will come like a thief. Pushing God to the back burner does not go without consequence. As He is the same God that made creation and death, turned Lot's wife into salt, and disciplined the Israelites for 40 years, it goes without saying that God is not a God who takes His name lightly.

Beth Moore is not the only one of our culture who has developed this mindset. There are even people in the church who proclaim to be Christian with this mindset. When one becomes truly converted, pushing God to the back burner will not result in God asking how they're doing. It will be life-changing events happening to make one realize the idols of self. Do realize I state this in love. Christians are called by God to contest with false theology.

Further Application of Praising God from A To Z

"For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirt, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart." Hebrews 4:12, ESV.

"'Can a man hide himself in hiding places so I do not see him?' declares the LORD. 'I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy falsely in My name, saying, 'I had a dream, I had a dream . . ." Jeremiah 23:24, ESV.

"God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent; has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?" Numbers 23:19

What are His foundations?

God is infinite, with no beginning and no end. To him, eternity rests in His hand.

He made the spiritual and physical law, the Earth and planets, and made life out of nothing. His actions are governed by His purity. Have you wondered why there's meant to be peacemakers? They are meant to bring balances to society. It is based off of His nature. He states that "blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God." (Matthew 5:9, NASB).

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters." Genesis 1:1, NASB

"He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together." Colossians 1:17

Further Application

"Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live." John 5:26, NASB. This scripture is referencing the second resurrection.

"Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen." Ephesians 3:20-21, NASB.
